Crafted to combine function, strength, and aesthetic appeal, this custom dog gate and balustrade system was designed to safely contain the family dogs while maintaining the flow and visual character of the home. Using a blend of traditional fabrication techniques and precision laser-cut detailing, the gate provides a secure barrier without compromising the look and feel of the space. The design follows the lines of the dog-leg staircase, ensuring smooth movement and controlled access between the hallway, kitchen, and upper levels. Durable, practical, and visually cohesive, this piece offers both reliable pet control and a considered architectural feature that complements its surroundings.

This custom-made dining table base was crafted to complement the surrounding interior and create a cohesive look within the kitchen and dining space. Built from rectangular box section steel with hammered bar supports, the frame strikes a balance between strength, character, and refined industrial detailing. Fitted with smooth-rolling casters, the table can be moved with ease—ideal for flexible dining layouts, entertaining, or opening the space when needed. The base was specifically designed to support a composite table top selected to match the existing kitchen work surfaces, ensuring visual continuity from one space to the next.

This one-of-a-kind clock was created specifically for Howkeld Mill, designed to pay homage to the building’s industrial heritage. Built using salvaged mill components recovered from the site, the piece preserves the character, texture, and story of the materials that once powered the mill’s machinery. We combined these reclaimed steel and brass elements with precision laser-cut detailing to form a clock that is both functional and sculptural. Every component has been chosen for its history and visual presence—worn surfaces, aged patina, and mechanical forms that speak to decades of work and movement. Rather than disguising the past, this clock celebrates it. The original marks and imperfections are intentionally left visible, creating a timepiece that remains deeply connected to its origins.

This bespoke external railing was designed and fabricated to complement the existing architectural metalwork we have previously created for our client at the mill. Constructed from rectangular box section steel with hand-hammered rail uprights, the piece delivers strength, craftsmanship, and a subtle industrial character that reflects the building’s heritage. At the heart of the design sits a laser-cut millstone centrepiece, echoing the history of the site and tying the railing visually to other custom features throughout the property. To complete the composition, the newel post is finished with a bespoke cap, also featuring a small millstone logo—a refined detail that reinforces the connection between the piece and its environment for this made to measure for the small patio staircase. 

As part of our ongoing work at the mill, we were commissioned to replace the existing three-storey staircase railings and transform the look of the interior. The original 1980s timber balustrade has been completely reimagined using flat steel bar stringers paired with hand-hammered steel uprights, introducing a cleaner, stronger and more characterful architectural presence throughout the stairwell. To echo the heritage of the building, the first-floor landing features a custom laser-cut millstone emblem, carefully integrated as the visual centrepiece of the new railing system. In place of the original timber newel post caps, we installed bespoke steel caps — each one adorned with a small laser-cut millstone motif. These subtle touches bring cohesion and depth, elevating functional components into considered design features.

This bespoke gallows bracket house sign was designed and fabricated to complement the wider collection of metalwork we have created for Howkeld Mill. Built from steel box section, the bracket mirrors the structural language of the existing installations on site, ensuring a sense of continuity in both style and presence. A welded steel chain suspends a large laser-cut millstone plaque, featuring the property’s name and date, creating a clear and characterful identity marker for the home. The millstone emblem serves as a consistent reference to the building’s heritage, acting as both a functional sign and a visual link to the mill’s past.
